Six tools for your moodboard
Interiorboards
Interiorboards is made for a moodboard of a room, with products you can really buy. You paste the link to a product from an online shop. The photo, name and price appear on the board. Below the board is a list of all the products and the total, so you see straight away what the room will cost.
You can also upload your own photos, pick RAL colours for the walls or window frames and add text to the board. You move everything freely around the canvas. You share the board with a link. Interiorboards works in the browser, on your phone too.
You can make 3 boards for free. Plus costs € 5 a month or € 48 a year. With Plus you get unlimited boards, you can remove the background from a photo and you can download your board as a PDF.
Weak point: there are no templates and no stock photos. You start with an empty canvas. Not every online shop can be read. If it does not work, you fill in the name and price yourself. There is no app in the App Store or Play Store.
Canva
Canva is a design tool for posters, presentations, social media posts and moodboards too. It has far more templates than the other tools here. You pick a moodboard template, drag photos into it and change the colours and fonts. Canva works in the browser and as an app.
The free plan already does a lot. Pro costs € 12 a month or € 110 a year. With it you get the premium templates, among other things, and you can remove backgrounds from photos.
Weak point for interiors: Canva knows nothing about products. A photo of a sofa is just an image, with no price and no link to the shop. You keep track of the total cost somewhere else.
Pinterest is where many people start. You search for "japandi living room" and get thousands of photos. You save them to boards, by room or by style. With visual search you find images that look like a photo. Pinterest is free and works in the browser and as an app.
Weak point: Pinterest only collects. You cannot arrange images freely, make them bigger or smaller, or put a colour next to them. Prices do not add up. That is why many people collect on Pinterest and make the moodboard in another tool. On Interiorboards you can paste the link to a pin, and with Plus you bring in your Pinterest boards in one go.
Morpholio Board
Morpholio Board is an app for interior designers and architects. You put products from brands in the app, or from your own library, on a board. The app makes a product list with specifications, which you export as a PDF or Excel file. That helps when you hand a design over to a client or a builder.
The app is free to download. You buy more features in the app. Morpholio only works on iPad, iPhone and Mac.
Weak point: Morpholio is made for professionals. For one living room it is a lot of app. If you do not have an Apple device, it is not an option.
Milanote
Milanote is a free-form board for images, notes, links and lists. Boards can sit inside each other, for example a board per room inside a board for your home. With the web clipper you save an image or a product from a website. Milanote works in the browser and as an app.
The free plan stops at 100 notes, images or links and 10 uploads. If you collect twenty products per room, that fills up fast. The paid plan costs $ 9.99 a month billed yearly, or $ 12.50 a month. Milanote only shows prices in dollars.
Weak point: you do not see a total price for your products.
Miro
Miro is an online whiteboard for teams. The canvas is endless and there are thousands of templates, moodboards included. Its strength is working together: everyone moves things at the same time, adds notes and comments. Useful when you plan a renovation with a builder or an interior designer.
For free you get 3 editable boards. Starter costs $ 8 a month billed yearly. Miro also shows prices in dollars.
Weak point: Miro is made for meetings and projects. For a moodboard you get a lot of buttons you do not need.
Making a moodboard in an app or in the browser
Canva, Pinterest, Milanote and Miro work in the browser and have an app for your phone. Morpholio Board is only an app, for Apple. Interiorboards works in the browser on your computer and your phone, with nothing to install. On a phone you get a separate editor made for the small screen.
